The Buckeye House Rabbit Society provides medical care and loving foster homes for rescued bunnies in Ohio. They fall under the auspices of the House Rabbit Society which is a national organization. Their website provides great information on how to care for rabbits and which veterinarians are specially certified to provide medical care for Lagomorphs. Rabbits are some of the smallest (and cutest) victims of neglect in the animal community and the House Rabbit Society provides a vital resource.
Canter of Ohio
Canter addresses the rescue needs of the thoroughbred racing community. Every year thousands of these magnificent horses are sent to slaughter after they are no longer able to race. Their meat is then used for human consumption in foreign countries. Canter of Ohio works with the racing community at Thistledown in Cleveland and Beulah Park in Columbus to "re-home" as many horses as possible.
Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary
Happy Trails provides a safe haven for neglected, abandoned and abused farm animals. They have also started a very special program with the Amish community to help re-home horses after they are no longer useful for work, thereby saving them from the slaughter auctions. Happy Trails is the first farm animal rescue in this area and has filled an enormous void.
